Nolan Transport Supports Operation "Slow Down"

As you may be aware the Garda Siochana have issued a statement for Operation "Slow Down" 2013 which states;

From 7am on Friday 31st May to 7am on Saturday 1st June, An Garda Siochana, along with other stakeholders, will run Operation "Slow Down".

The objectives of the Operation are to raise awareness of the dangers of inappropriate and excessive speed, reduce the number of speed related collisions, and therefore save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.


Nolan Transport have been conducting our own "slow down" initiative over the last few months by placing a speed limit advisory sign in our yards and sticking an image of it on all of the drivers pay slips;


By decreasing your speed by just 5 km/h it would not only save lives but it will also cut fuel consumption and pollutant emissions.

Darkness Into Light

Back in March a few of our staff decided to do fundraising for Pieta House  linking in with their Darkness Into Light event. After researching Pieta house they were made aware that It costs approximately €1,000 to successfully bring one person through a full suite of therapy sessions and into the light, they decided to set this as their target. Nolan Transport are proud to announce that not only did they reach their target, they exceeded it raising: €1,255 After a few weeks of brainstorming, they decided on a few fundraising ideas that they believed would help reach their target. Sulphur Emission Control Areas (SECA)

Changes taking place from January 2015 in relation to the European Union directive on Fuel Emission that all ferry operators operating in the Sulphur Emission Control Areas (SECA). The SECA zone includes English Channel and North Sea that we must travel though when moving your cargo going to/from Mainland Europe. The current maximum allowed Sulphur content in marine fuels is 1.0% and this will reduce to 0.1% within the Sulphur Emission Control Areas (SECA). Effectively this means that traditional heavy fuel oil used in freight ferries will be replaced with more refined fuel oil which is more expensive to purchase. All the various ferry operators within this area have slightly different but similar systems for calculating the SECA surcharges.
